I have always loved seafood, but if I had to pick just one I would choose fried oysters. I realize that is probably an unexpected choice for a favorite food, but it is my favorite. Fried oysters are my favorite food because it tastes delicious to me. The crunchy fried outside mixed with the slightly salty soft oysters is just music to my taste buds. One memory that is cemented in my head that makes this my favorite food, is actually a family tradition. Originally, my father, Lionel James is from Donaldsonville, Louisiana, and his immediate family still lives there. Whenever, we go to visit my grandparents we stop at this place called We Never Close. It is a little hole in the wall type of restaurant, but those types of restaurants are always the best. They make amazing po-boys which is a sandwich that is very popular in Louisiana, it consists of a roll of French bread, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, and the meat of your choosing. We always used to stop there on our way to my grandparents and on our way back to Georgia. I was extremely saddened when We Never Closed actually closed. Although, we can’t go to We Never Close anymore I’m glad we found another place not too far so that we can continue the tradition. Although, I like a variety of foods and I try to keep an open mind about trying foods one food that I refuse to eat is Brussel sprouts. Brussels sprouts smell when you cook them and they taste disgusting. They appear to look like little cabbages, but that’s not what they taste like. I remember the first time my mother allowed me to try Brussel sprouts. She fixed my plate for dinner one night and she had put a few on my plate covered in cheese alongside the rest of my meal. I asked what they were because at the time I did not know. She told me they were Brussel sprouts and that they taste great just try them, so I did and I immediately spit it out it was disgusting. I like vegetables but Brussel sprouts I stay away from. To this day the only two people I know that eat them are my grandfather and my mom, and they can enjoy eating them while I will stick to broccoli.
